Crying over spilt milk
I never thought I'd start to cry in line at the grocery store, but I guess anything's possible. Today must have been food stamp day because the Giant in Columbia Heights was packed with customers holding tickets which I can only conclude were food stamps.
When I got in line, I witness the sadest thing: many of the cashiers were explaining to various customers that they got the wrong item. I don't know much about food stamps, and I am very thankful I do not, but it seems that some food stamps are for specific items.
I was moved to tears when I realized that these, mostly Hispanic, shoppers can't read their food stamps. It made me so sad. I still feel the tears thinking about it.
